Do You Have A Business Blog?

If you are involved with any sort of online business, whether that's digital marketing, online training, B2B or e-commerce you should definitely have a blog, and not just any old blog but a great blog with great content.  The digital marketing industry is currently undergoing a massive paradigm shift and the old school ways of building a successful online business are quickly fading into the darkness.

Back in 2001 I started my first online business.  During that time I did not have a blog and I barely used email.  I built my business using the old school methods such as building a list of contacts and going to every networking event I could find.  Was I very successful?  Absolutely not.  It takes a tremendous amount of time building a business using the old school methods.  Thankfully, the internet has given online entrepreneurs and all sorts of other entrepreneurs the ability to build worldwide businesses.

Are you an up-and-coming online entrepreneur?  Are you looking to become an online entrepreneur?  There is not a day that goes by where I don’t receive at least one email or phone call from an up-and-coming entrepreneur asking me for advice on home or online businesses.  There are thousands upon thousands of options to choose from when starting your own home based business or deciding to be an at home entrepreneur.

If you are thinking about ideas, look for something that people will always need such as items for the home, stuff for the kids or greetings cards (now there's a product with a huge mark-up) or a service you can easily deliver such as interior design, decorating, gardening. You can buy products in bulk at enormous discounts, sell on at lower than regular retail prces and still turn a profit. Don't worry too much about storage as there is plenty of low cost self storage available. I know somone who runs their whole business out of a self storage unit and the facility now provide fulfillment and delivery services for the business so no huge storage overheads and the business is positively thriving.

There is not a week that goes by that I do not count my blessings that I finally took the plunge and started my own online business.  Did I face challenges along the way?  Absolutely!  Did I smash my head against the wall trying to figure out the “secret online formula?”  You bet I did (I still have the scars to prove it)!

However, eventually the fruits of my labor finally started to pay off!  I get to work from home, take my son to kindergarten, go on field trips with my daughters pre-school and be a wonderful husband to my wife.   This is exactly what your own small, successful business can do for you. But you do need a good basic business plan and that includes a good blog; a business can't survive and thrive without one. Don't worry too much about what you will write just get writing. You can make it a chatty blog or a more serious news and opinion blog such as Project Accelerator News; the main thing is to generate content as often as possible. I like to say daily content but, in reality, for a busy business that can be hard to achieve initially so start with weekly blogs.
